About Medicine Bow Lodge Guest Ranch

“A bit of ranch history”

Your host Tim & Debbie Bishop
General Information:

Medicine Bow Lodge opened as a guest ranch on July 15, 1917. Jessie More and her Brother-in-law George “Baldy” Sisson built the lodge to give dudes from the east a place to vacation. Medicine Bow Lodge remains the ideal location for folks from the crowded, busy cities to come and get away from it all. While here you will experience the great beauty of this part of Wyoming. Medicine Bow Lodge is located in the Snowy Range Mountains of the Medicine Bow National Forest. Medicine Bow Lodge is proud of its long heritage and welcomes its guests to come to see one of the most beautiful areas of the west. The Snowy Range with its alpine terrain is unique in its beauty and splendour. Old mining and logging towns can be seen on horseback rides within just a few miles of the Lodge. Hundreds of lakes, ponds, and streams fill the valleys. There are breathtaking views that pictures just can’t capture on film and represent the majestic scenery and history of the area.

In 1917, Medicine Bow Lodge first opened near Saratoga, Wyoming. We are proud to share great mountain views, rushing streams, towering fir trees and a true Old West experience for visitors to this beautiful part of our state. Fishing, hiking, horseback riding and evening campfires are among the memorable activities at the family-owned Lodge.

Guests may choose to arrange for overnight horseback pack trips in the mountains or visit scenic or historic sites in the Medicine Bow National Forest. In the nearby towns of Saratoga, Encampment and Savery there are museums, art galleries and shopping venues reflecting the flavor of this special locale. Also, in Saratoga are the natural springs at the famous Hot Pool, open year-round.

The recently refurbished Lodge features vintage log walls, comfortable furnishings, a huge stone fireplace and space for games, entertainment and dancing as well as Internet access. As many as thirty guests can enjoy all amenities and three delicious home-cooked meals are served daily each day in the Lodge dining room. Carefully selected fresh produce, meats and seafood are complemented by slices of bread and desserts prepared from treasured family recipes. Cosy cabins are rustic but welcoming and activities for young folks are offered for outdoor fun and arts and crafts. The timeless style of the west is reflected by the courteous and competent staff that assist with all aspects of the Medicine Bow Lodge experience.

A deck overlooking the creek invites artists or readers to enjoy the peaceful surroundings in the pristine mountain air. Winter visitors may be hunters, snowmobilers, cross country skiers, or downhill skiers who return to the warmth of the Lodge after a day of exertion and excitement.

There is something for everyone at Medicine Bow Lodge. Convinced that everyone will leave here with a fondness for this timeless place, and many stories to tell others. We hope you’ll come and join us for your vacation and experience what many others have called “The Ride of a Lifetime”.
